Abfall (der): «caída», «declive». Uno de los primeros términos elaborados por el joven Heidegger en las lecciones del semestre de invierno 1919-1920, Problemas fundamentales de la fenomenologia, que prefigura la posterior idea de la caída (Verfallen). Aqui abfallen («caer», «decaer», «perderse») está relacionado con la necesidad de destruir la primada que la actitud teorética ha cobrado en el âmbito de la reflexión filosófica. Desde el prisma teorético, la vida y las experiencias humanas quedan reducidas a un conjunto de simples objetivaciones desligadas del mundo realmente vivido; en otras palabras, se explica su contenido, se fija su qué (Was), pero no se presta atención al modo, al como (Wie) esta vida se realiza y se gesta en su devenir histórico.
