Au contraire du substantif (Faktizität), qui sera traduit, comme l’habitude semble en être prise, par facticité (à ne pas confondre avec factualité), et cela sans provoquer de confusion, je traduis l’adjectif, et l’adjectif seul (soit dans l’expression : das faktische Dasein, soit en tant qu’attribut du sujet : das Dasein ist faktisch ou das Dasein existiert faktisch), par l’expression : « en situation ». Le lecteur comprendra plus tard les raisons qui m’y ont poussé. Cette expression a vocation à marquer le caractère spécifique du « fait » de chaque homme en particulier, en tant que Dasein. En tant qu’il ‘a-été-lancé’, en tant que son essence s’identifie à son existence, en tant qu’il a à être, aucune place n’est laissée, pour le fait que le Dasein soit, à l’existence en son sens courant, à la factualité. La facticité a pour objet de remplacer ce manque. Cela permet de garder, sans confusion possible, pour les nombreux cas (dont certains ont déjà été rencontrés) où elle est de règle, la traduction courante : de fait ou factuel pour l’adjectif – en réalité, effectivement ou en fait pour l’adverbe. "Faktische Aussagen” does not, in this context, mean "factual statements” in the sense of statements of fact, nor does “faktisch vollzogene Aussagen” mean “factually performed statements” in the sense of statements performed as a matter of course. Instead, faktisch, here and elsewhere, means something like “having actually transpired” or “having historical reality." In order to allow this meaning to come through with the least amount of syntactical complexity, I have allowed the Germanism “factical” to carry this somewhat special meaning. While this word can often be translated simply as ‘in fact’ or ‘as a matter of fact’, it is used both as an adjective and as an adverb and is so characteristic of Heidegger’s style that we shall as a rule translate it either as ‘factical’ or as ‘factically’, thus preserving its connection with the important noun ‘Faktizität’ (facticity’), and keeping it distinct from ‘tatsächlich’ (’factual’) and ‘wirklich’ (’actual’).
